Imagine a world without organ transplant waiting lists or organ trafficking – where twenty five percent of donated organs are not discarded because they are deemed unsuitable for transplantation. Biomedical engineer David Martos Ruiz is researching a process that could make this new world a reality. This process, known as “decellularisation”, could revolutionise not only organ transplantation, but also how we view and develop treatments for other diseases, such as cancer. David Martos Ruiz is a biomedical engineer with expertise on tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Five years ago, David decided he wanted to bridge the gap between engineering and biology. This passion has led him to his current role at Engitix, a biotech startup, as a tissue engineer and biomaterial scientist. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
